Newton Youth Soccer Annual Intramural 3rd Grade Tournament

Held on Saturday October 13, 2007

Soccer- Fun- Food- Friendship- Rewards

Welcome to all parents and coaches and most important Players:

NYS  is holding the 3rd grade Friendly Tournament on October 13th at Countryside field. This is in lieu of the regular Saturday's game and is organized as a advanced clinic supervised by MPS, a professional organization working with NYS on several of our training programs.

We encourage you to bring the entire family to this event and enjoy the day. There will be shirts and food at the field.

Many hours were spent organizing the event and we intended to keep it small, and to the special group of third graders only. We believe that the players at this age are prime candidates for development and already have acquired a good understanding of the game and are starting to master techniques that seemed strange and impossible just a year ago. Our coaches are in the frontline reinforcing these techniques and we are grateful to have them working with our young players.

Thank you for your participation

From the tourney organizers to all coaches and parents:

Here at last is the schedule for the upcoming 3rd Grade Tournament.  All games will take place on October 13 (rain date Oct 27) at Countryside fields.  Please be sure to arrive at the fields one-half hour prior to the stated time of the first game, so that we may start and finish on time.
While we tried to take the results of the last four weeks into consideration for the purposes of team placement, we recognize that not every team's record accurately reflects its progress this season.  There are bound to be some mismatches, and we apologize in advance for those.  We hope that all players will enjoy an opportunity to spend a few hours kicking the ball around with their friends, whatever the scores may be.

As a reminder, the tournament will be in a round-robin format, with each team playing every team in its group.  Each game will be 20 minutes long, with 10 minute breaks between the games.  3 points will be awarded for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.  At the end of each group tournament, the players on the two teams with the most points in that group will receive medals. Goal differential will not be taken into account.

We are still looking for parent volunteers from each team to help us make sure that the tournament runs smoothly.        We request that each team e-mail Gene Gurvits at Esqgg@comcast.net a name and e-mail address of a parent volunteer.
Good luck to all players, and let's hope for great weather!

Yours in Soccer,
Gene Gurvits
VP Intramural

Fall 2005 Tournament Recap:

The tourney was a big success and the kids had a blast, the coffee was hot and the food delicious. The last 6 teams played under historical snowy conditions and had to stop after conditions worsened (photos).

Thank you for being part of it and we hope to do it again next season.
