Vicky Stein is the mother of a 6^th grade soccer player who plays in Newton Youth Soccer for six years.  She came to New England SCORES with an innovative idea:  How about honoring NYS coaches with a charitable gift of soccer?  We loved it, and developed our Thank You, Coach! alternative coach gift strategy to offer inner-city youth the chance to play soccer.

New England SCORES is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides over 400 urban youth in 14 Boston public schools with the opportunity to develop soccer skills and play on a team.  Our proactive after-school program combines the proven benefits of team sports - increased physical activity, self-esteem, team pride, and good sportsmanship - with an on-site academic program that builds literacy development through creative arts.  The mission of New England SCORES is to inspire in urban children a lasting dedication to education, healthy living, and civic responsibility. 

As a parent of an avid soccer player, you know better than anyone that soccer coaches are great teachers.  Well beyond soccer instruction, coaches ensure that youth experience all the benefits of team sports, which instill important life skills in your young players.  At the close of the season, parents often thank their children’s coaches by way of a token gift.  Vicky’s idea expands these kind gestures into philanthropic donations that express sincere appreciation for these volunteer coaches and support soccer programs for low-income children in Boston ’s urban neighborhoods.

Thank You, Coach! is easy.  Just identify a lead parent to collect the funds for the entire team.  If you are the lead parent, go to NewEnglandScores  (http://www.americascores.org/#/newengland)   and click on Thank You, Coach!  Or, find the link on www.newtonsoccer.org.  When you complete the form, a beautiful gift card will be sent to your named coach in his or her honor.  As a parent in the well-established Newton-based soccer team network, you can be the key link between suburban and inner-city youth soccer teams.  Vicky and New England SCORES ask for your support to teach your child and other suburban young soccer players the value of community service and teamwork through a hands-on opportunity to make a big difference for their urban counterparts.
