CITY OF NEWTON OVERVIEW

 Practice Fields

Fields are a limited resource.  There are many more teams than fields and it always the rule that we share fields with other soccer teams and other sports.  Pick a less popular time to practice (Friday afternoon is always the most crowded) and a less popular field.  You do not need goals to practice, or a lined field.  All you need is some open space.

Care of Fields

Newton Youth Soccer and Newton Girls Soccer have, with the City of Newton Parks and Recreation Department, embarked on an ambitious program to improve the quality of Newton's soccer fields.  Sharing costs [NYS 25%, NGS 25%, City of Newton 50%] we have spent jointly over $200,000 to install on-site wells and irrigation and to regrade and seed fields. We expect more expenditure over the next five years.  The time and effort show at Weeks Field, Nahanton Field and our other renovated fields which are among the highest quality soccer fields in Massachusetts.

Take care of our fields.

The fields are our precious resource. Per our policy, under no circumstances should you practice or play on an exceptionally wet or muddy field or when officially closed.  This policy will be enforced and coaches disciplined when violating this rule. Take extra care not to tear up the goal mouths.  One session of abuse can ruin a field for a season.  You do not need to use the goals to practice.  If you do use the goals, move them out of the goal area.   We are trying to ensure our fields are available for years of use.  Make sure that others do not abuse the fields.  Please check the Hotline for field conditions When you leave a field after practice, if the goals are portable, please leave the goals a few yards behind or to the side of the goal mouths, to avoid unnecessary wear and tear during the week.  Report Field Problems
