NYS Families:

Sorry for multiple messages within the course of a week, but this is an important development. In light of Governor Baker’s most recent COVID policy updates, I am happy to announce an additional change to our COVID safety protocols. Effective May 18th, players 18 years and under will not be required to wear a mask while actively engaged in training or a match outdoors.

All other aspects of the safety protocols remain the same. Everyone including players must wear masks when walking to and from fields. Players must wear masks when on the sideline and/or engaged in huddles. Coaches and referees must wear masks at all times. Spectator family pods may drop masks while watching matches if they are 6 feet from other family pods.

Players may of course continue to wear a mask at their parents’ or their own discretion during play/training and we will support their decision to do so.

I recognize that this may feel like a lot of change in a short period of time. The 2 driving forces are: 1) the climbing vaccination rate and attendant drop in infection rate in Massachusetts and 2) CDC’s new guidance around outdoor transmission. The messaging around the latter point hasn’t been great in my opinion. However, CDC’s new guidance for outdoor mask wearing is based on solid, peer-reviewed research which has taken time to accumulate and published. Good science takes time.

Please remain safe, patient, and kind to one another.

Best regards,
