Newton Youth Soccer aims to create a player-centric program that instills a lifelong appreciation of the beautiful game.

The tenets of our program are:

  • Soccer players must be confident with the ball at their feet(both of them). They need to learn to make decisions in attack, defense and transition. This is a time-on-task endeavor and we seek to give each player as much time with a ball as possible so that each can master the technical aspects of the game.

  • Acquiring technical ball skills develops confident players that look to actively participate while on and off the ball. We recognize that soccer is a "players' game" in which coaches and parents should have appropriate levels of direction and control, especially during games, so that players can learn by doing, including making "mistakes". We want to develop players that have the confidence to learn from mistakes, and to embrace competing with total effort.

  • Our organization serves the entire Newton community and is dependent upon youth participants and adult volunteers at all levels of abilities, on and off the field.

About NYS

Since 1976, Newton Youth Soccer (NYS) has been promoting youth soccer in Newton, Massachusetts.

NYS sponsors two major programs, an intramural program and a BAYS travel program which are available in the fall and spring seasons.  There is a separate organization, Newton Girls Soccer,  which is for girls only.  We are referred to as the "boys" league to distinguish us from Newton Girls Soccer, but NYS welcomes girls to play in its programs.  Our programs enroll about 1,300 players annually and we have one of the largest single town participation in the country.

Every volunteer on the NYS board has a job.  During the fall and spring seasons we are busy organizing teams, coaches, uniforms, and equipment.  In the spring, we organize tryouts for the following fall BAYS travel season.  Throughout the year we train referees, run instructional and licensing clinics for coaches, renovate and maintain fields, and organize equipment.  We are all volunteers, and there is always room for more.  If you would like to volunteer and be a part of  Newton Youth Soccer,  email the President.

Codes of Conduct

The Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association Board of Directors approved the implementation of Codes of Conduct for Coaches, Parents, Players and Referees and a Zero Tolerance Policy by unanimous consent in January 2023.

The Mass Youth Soccer Codes of Contact and Zero Tolerance Policy were developed over a number of months of consultation and collaboration with League and Member Organization leaders, Massachusetts State Referee Committee and other State Associations utilizing best practices from other Leagues, States and US Soccer appropriate for our programs.
