In-Town Intramural Grade 3 Overview

**** SPRING 2016 UPDATE****

UPADTE!!!!  There will be no sessions Saturday, April 23rd at for our program this Spring.  Newton South is hosting a track meet and Newton has closed the Brown / Oak Hill fields to all Newton youth activities.

The Spring 2016 outdoor season begins Saturday April 9th and will end June 11th.  There will be no games Memorial Day Weekend.

3rd Grade Sessions will be at Brown Oak Hill behind the Oak Hill school, Fields A&B.  Please refer to our Fields section to find the location.

Late registration fees begin March 1st, so be sure to register before then.  If you miss that date, then be SURE to register prior to our $100 late fee which takes effect March 15th.

3rd Grade Saturday Sessions

The 3rd grade program continues our focus on skill development while introducing longer and larger games with goalies.  The 75 minute session takes place Saturday mornings and is broken into two parts:  Skills training and small sided games.

The first 25 or so minutes of each session will be devoted to skill training conducted by professional coaches with help from our volunteer coaches.  The skills training will follow a defined curriculum that builds on itself each week.

Following a brief transition, the second portion of each session will be devoted to a  6 v 6 game including goalies.  40 minute games will follow and be refereed by an NYS assigned referee.  Games will typically feature two (20) minute halves and a 5 minute half time.  The 6 v 6 game is designed to promote involvement, maximize touches on the ball and application of the skills learned in the previous skills session and in that respect is identical to our BAYS U9 (3rd grade) travel program.

In addition to weekly training and a game, every team's volunteer coach is expected to run at least 1 (1 hour) practice week.  Practice will be led by your team's volunteer coach(es) at fields and times to be determined by them.

Saturday session START times will run between 8:30AM and 10:00AM and finish by 11:15.

Grade 3 Specific Rules

Newton Youth Soccer uses standard FIFA rules with the differences described below.

Field of Play - 60 yds x 40 yds

Ball Size - 4

Number of Players on Field - 6 v 6

Out of Bounds (restarts)

Sidelines: When a ball goes out of bounds on the sideline (touchline) the game will be restarted by a throw-in.

End-lines:  When a ball goes out over the end-line, the game will be restarted by either a goal kick (if the ball was kicked out by the attacked team) or a corner kick (if the ball was kicked out by the defending team).

Special Rules regarding goal kicks / goalie punts and goalie throws

Goal kicks, goalie punts (to include drop kicks) and goalie throws can not travel over the midfield line in the air.  The ball must bounce first or be touched in the air by a defending player to be in play.  Balls that travel over the midfield line in the air will result in a dead ball, indirect kick for the defending team at the spot the ball landed.

Substitutions

Substitutions can be made on any out of bounds situation or when a child needs to come out of the game due to an injury.  Please signal the ref when are want to substitute and wait for the ref to acknowledge the request prior to making your change.  Please note: The rule of thumb for all coaches will be to give all players equal playing time each week.

Equipment

Shinguards are required and should be worn under the players socks.  Cleats are not required but as suggested.
