Becoming a Referee

We are always looking for intramural referees.  It is a great way to contribute to Newton Soccer, be involved with soccer, and make some money.

There is a Pre-season Intramural training program in the fall for all incoming 6th Grade BAYS players and 6th and 7th grade students. If you would like to referee games this fall, you must attend this session. No previous referee experience is necessary. You will be assigned to games appropriate to your age and experience. This will improve your understanding of the game, it is fun and you get PAID! Please talk to your friends to join the orientation as well!

If you attended this class last year and refereed at least 1 game, you are not reuiqred to attend this class - but you MUST send an email to Sujit letting him know that you are interested in referring this fall:

Once you are trained to be an Intramural referee, you may move on to become BAYS certified.  This allows you to make more money refereeing Intramural games, and also become eligible to referee BAYS games.   Certification classes are held through the year.
Become a BAYS (USSF) Certified Referee:
The referee needs to register with the site, provide his/her profile information and then go under Course Schedule and sign up for the course. The course they should take is Grade 8 Entry Level.   They must be 14 years-old or older. The course fee is reimbursed by NYS if the referee submits the receipt to NYS Treasurer after his name is posted on the referee database.
