In-Town Intramural Program

The intramural program is an in-town program (no travel to other towns) for boys and girls from grades one through six.  Teams are organized by grade and children who are Newton residents or who attend Newton schools are eligible to play.  There are two seasons, Fall which runs from the beginning of September to mid November and Spring which runs from the beginning of April to Mid June.  Registration typically opens up in June for the Fall Season and November for the Spring Season.

The goal of the intramural program is to develop player skills in a fun and engaging environment.  To this goal we approach age group development in the following manner:

1st grade:  Teams play every Saturday.  The first half of every Saturday session is focussed on skill development led by professional coaches who follow a US Soccer developed skill curriculum.  The second half of each session is devoted to small sided games where the children can apply the skills they have just learned in a game situation which will encourage many touches on the ball.

2nd grade:  As with 1st grade, 2nd grade teams play every Saturday.  The first half of every Saturday session is focussed on skill development led by professional coaches who follow a US Soccer developed skill curriculum.  The second half of each session is devoted to small sided games where the children can apply the skills they have just learned in a game situation which will encourage many touches on the ball.

3rd grade:  Teams play a game every Saturday and have 1 practice during the week.  Games are 6 v 6 and are 60 minutes long (2 x 30 min halves).  Practices will be run by your team's volunteer coach on a day/time/location decided by said coach.  An age appropriate curriculum will be provided to each coach to ensure key skills are being taught across each age group.

4th / 5th / 6th grade:  Teams play a game every Saturday and have 1 practice during the week.  Games are 6 v 6and are 60 minutes long (2 x 30 min halves).  Practices will be run by your team's volunteer coach on a day/time/location decided by said coach.  An age appropriate curriculum will be provided to each coach to ensure key skills are being taught across  each age group.

As with all volunteer organizations we rely on the time many of you commit to help coach.  If you are interested in coaching (as a head coach or an assistant) please indicate this on your child's registration form.  No experience coaching or playing soccer is required.  At all levels we will provide you with a curriculum and coaching tips to help you through your season and to provide a positive experience for your team and for you!
